The Marietta OH/Parkersburg WV is fortunate to have so many caring/professional veterinarians to care for animals in the mid-Ohio Valley, and the HSOV is especially thankful for three of those wonderful veterinarian practices who provide such good care for the HSOV shelter dogs and cats. We want to recognize and thank Colegate Woods Veterinary Hospital (Dr. Roberta Haught and Dr. Janelle Nerone); Green Meadow Veterinary Hospital (Dr. David Spindler and Dr. Jessica Smith); and River City Pet Hospital (Dr. Gwen McHenry). These caring individuals are always there for the shelter animals and are also very generous in their support when we ask for help/sponsorship on many of our HSOV fundraisers!
Thank you to Junior Girl Scout Troop #1277 from Barlow-Vincent Elementary School for visiting the HSOV on March 27, 2014 as part of your leadership journey. We loved seeing your enthusiasm as you toured our shelter with HSOV Kennel Tech, Devon Blair as your tour guide .. and the shelter animals loved the donations you collected in your Fourth Grade classrooms and brought with you.
Thank you to Hades Ladies/First Settlement Derby Dames for organizing the event “Great Skate Vendor Palooza” which was held on June 7, 2014 at the Marietta Roller Rink. These amazing ladies donated a portion of the proceeds to the HSOV (as well as other charitable organizations).
“Dog Days of May” was held May 31, 2014 at the Belpre Heights United Methodist Church in Belpre, Ohio. Thanks to our HSOV Volunteer Coordinator, Sandra Brightwell , and HSOV Volunteer, Wendy Irvin , for their time and talents to organize an adoption event that day, and for arranging transportation for several HSOV dogs and cats to meet prospective adopters. Dr. Bea Schooley (Belpre Animal Clinic) hosted a low-cost rabies/microchip clinic at this event.
Rock N Paws & Friends collected donations (supplies and monetary gifts) for both the HSOV and HSOP on two separate occasions (March 15 and May 30, 2014) and delivered them to the respective shelters. Thank you to these lovely young ladies who do so much for the animals
Marietta Health and Wellness Center (Dr. Jeff Dexter) hosted a “Waggin’ Luau Party’ on May 31, 2014 in conjunction with their Patient Appreciation Day and collected donations for the HSOV. Thank you sooo much for including our shelter animals in your celebration!
The Arbors at Marietta (great friends of the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley) celebrated “Dog Days of Summer” on July 17, 2014 by hosting a dog show for their residents. Arbors employees from the Activities Department brought their dogs for this event and the residents LOVED them! This was a fun-filled afternoon, and there was a great turn-out. In conjunction with the “Dog Days of Summer” event, the Arbors collected donations for the HSOV which were delivered to our shelter. Thanks to Todd Clark for helping to organize this wonderful event.
Thanks to Over The Moon Pub & Pizza, 170 Front Street, Marietta, Ohio for hosting a fantastic fundraiser for the benefit of the HSOV .. “Howlin’ In The Alley” was a huge success! Everyone who attended raved about this event and loved the entertainment ( Johnny Staats & The Delivery Boys, The MoonDucks, and Blues Man Dan Holt).
“Running For A Cause” (Open Horse Fun Show) was held at the Washington County Fairgrounds on Sunday, July 20, 2014. All proceeds from this fun event benefited the HSOV and raised nearly $700. Thanks to Aleena Bauerbach, Annette Dunn, and Becky Johnston for organizing this fundraiser.
We love our HSOV volunteers and foster families and would be remiss if we didn’t let these compassionate individuals know how much they are appreciated. Please know that you are making a difference in the lives of shelter animals in so many ways. If you walked a dog, loved/played with a cat, gave a cat/dog a temporary home, shared photos on facebook, or helped with an HSOV fundraiser, you have truly made a difference. Our HSOV Volunteer Coordinator, Sandra Brightwell , is always happy to assist new volunteers. You may contact her via email ( email@example.com ). Our foster committee is also happy to hear from families who are interested in offering a temporary foster home to a shelter dog or cat. Please contact Teresa Cunningham(firstname.lastname@example.org )
or Celeste Ridgway (email@example.com) to learn more about our foster program
