HSOV executive director Steve Herron is requesting donations of slip leads for walking the shelter dogs. We had over 10 volunteers from Marietta College at the shelter this Saturday, to help get the dogs outside for a walk, and we didn’t have enough leads for everyone, and hardly any slip leads. If you have leads on hand you’d like to donate, or if you’d like to buy them locally, please drop them off at the shelter front desk. If you’d like to order leads online, and have them delivered directly to the shelter, here is a link on Amazon for … Read More

Today was the day that our sweet “Rosie” has patiently waited for since she arrived at the HSOV on August 2, 2013 … Late this afternoon “Rosie” had some unexpected visitors who came to the shelter and asked to meet this special girl. Their dog had passed away nearly two years ago, and the family decided they wanted to fill the void in their life by adopting another dog. They also decided that they wanted to adopt a dog who had been in the shelter for a long period of time and needed a real home.

The Marietta OH/Parkersburg WV is fortunate to have so many caring/professional veterinarians to care for animals in the mid-Ohio Valley, and the HSOV is especially thankful for three of those wonderful veterinarian practices who provide such good care for the HSOV shelter dogs and cats. We want to recognize and thank Colegate Woods Veterinary Hospital (Dr. Roberta Haught and Dr. Janelle Nerone); Green Meadow Veterinary Hospital (Dr. David Spindler and Dr. Jessica Smith); and River City Pet Hospital (Dr. Gwen McHenry). These caring individuals are always there for the shelter animals and are also very generous in their support when … Read More
We love our HSOV volunteers and foster families and would be remiss if we didn’t let these compassionate individuals know how much they are appreciated. Please know that you are making a difference in the lives of shelter animals in so many ways. If you walked a dog, loved/played with a cat, gave a cat/dog a temporary home, shared photos on facebook, or helped with an HSOV fundraiser, you have truly made a difference.
Our HSOV Volunteer Coordinator, Sandra Brightwell , is always happy to assist new volunteers. You may contact her via email firstname.lastname@example.org .
