There was a happy ending/new beginning today for three newborn orphaned kittens who were found in a dumpster on Pike Street in Marietta, Ohio on the evening of March 31, 2015. Those tiny kittens had been placed in individual plastic bags and left to die a horrible death. Fortunately for them, someone heard their tiny meows and called the Washington County Sheriff’s Department. Deputy/Dog Warden Kelly McGilton and HSOV Humane Officer Misty Carpenter rescued the kittens and brought them to the shelter late that evening.

If you find a dog/cat, please do not assume it is a stray or that it has been abandoned. Please do not keep it or give it away until you have talked to your local police department, vets, animal shelters, groomers and neighbors. You can even mention it to your mail carrier. The HSOV “Most Wanted List” of supplies for our dogs and cats at the present time includes:
Dry dog food (both adult and puppy chow)
Canned dog food (our dogs love Alpo and Moist n’ Meaty)
Dry cat food (both adult and kitten chow)
Canned cat food
(We are also collecting weight circles from Purina pet food products if you’d like to help us obtain food from Purina in exchange for those.)
We encourage our local supporters to purchase from our many local merchants who also support the HSOV.
If you have filled out a volunteer application and been through training and are interested in helping with adopt-a-thons, please let me know. If you have not filled out an application or been through training, but would like to, please let me know. Ways volunteers can help include, but are not limited to: dog walking and petting, cat cuddling, computer work, nursing home visits, animal grooming, fundraising, litter box cleaning, kennel cleaning, laundry, grant writing, adopt-a-thons, painting, maintenance, landscaping, transport and dog socializing and training. The Marietta Senior High School HPAC (Health Professions Affinity Club) has already held one donation campaign and will again be accepting donations for their bake sale items tomorrow night (2/28/2015) at the opening of the MHS Musical GREASE!
