ADOPT
ADOPTION PROCESS
The adoption process begins with your choice of a pet and completion of our Adoption Application (link below). Applications are generally processed within a day or two of receipt however this depends on how many applications our staff is currently processing. We strongly encourage you to visit our shelter and meet prospective pets. Please keep in mind, children and four-legged friends should be included in the final decision to adopt and we do allow meet and greets for family pets.
-
All adopted pets are surgically sterilized. Any animal that is too young or otherwise unable to be spayed or neutered before leaving the shelter, will go into foster care with the adopter until the surgery is performed. Once the pet is sterilized, the adoption can be finalized.
-
Be aware: There is no guarantee that you will be approved for the particular pet for which you have applied. We are looking for the best fit for the pet and potential adopter. You may be encouraged to meet a different pet that may be a better fit.
-
Our counselors and staff is available to help you make a good decision about bringing home a new family member. We encourage you to be certain about your decision before finalizing your adoption. Adoption fees are non-refundable.
-
The Humane Society reserves the right to deny any adoption application, for any reason. Decisions are based on the standards for humane care and responsible pet ownership as set by the Board of Directors.
-
If you are a new pet owner and need a veterinarian, grooomer or trainer, you may want to check out our Pet Resources for pet related services in our area.
