VOLUNTEER

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

The picture above was taken by one of our volunteers on an afternoon walk through the fields around our shelter with one of our residents, Buttercup.  This could be your view too!

Volunteering will provide you a new view of not simply the wonderful animals that find themselves homeless, but very likely a different perspective of the people who, like you, care deeply about helping change the future of the animals.  If you allow it, it may also change your perspective of what a difference YOU can make!

Volunteering  will introduce you to incredible animals, compassionate and hardworking people and endless opportunities to make a difference!   And there are so many ways for you to make a difference.

  • Walking dogs and cuddling cats in our shelter

  • Taking animals to outside adoption events

  • Taking animals to nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and schools.

  • Helping with events and fundraisers

  • Driving animals to the vet or transporting to rescue

  • Helping in the shelter with animal care, including bathing and grooming, helping with laundry, washing food and water dishes, washing litter pans, etc.

  • Assisting in the office, welcoming the public, and assisting them find the right pet

  • Grounds-keeping, mowing, and landscaping

  • Shelter repairs and cleaning

If you're interested in becoming a volunteer, plan on attending our new volunteer orientations at the Shelter.  You will be scheduled for orientation once you submit your application to volunteer.  Follow our Facebook page to receive updates on what is happening in and around our shelter.  And once you become a volunteer, you will be added to a Facebook group specific for our volunteers to share information about upcoming events, volunteer opportunities and happening you may want to take part in.

Questions about becoming a volunteer, opportunities and anything else "volunteer" related, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@hsov.org
